The aerial view above is of Las Olas Boulevard before it was developed. The finger isles pictured gave Fort Lauderdale its nickname, "Venice of America." The ocean lies in the foreground. The complete ad below for Realtor M.A. Hortt in the Fort Lauderdale Herald in 1920 touts lots at Idlewyld for $3,500 each. The deep water harbor discussed is Port Everglades, which opened as Bay Mabel Harbor in 1928. The poorly worded ad states:
Right facing where the Inlet will be made, while every piece of property in the county will be benefited, yet IDLEWYLD, MOONEY POINT and COLEE HAMMOCK will be the first to receive the direct results of the deep water Harbor.
